Ottawa must be officially designated as a bilingual city

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA (March 20, 2017) - On this International Francophonie Day, NDP candidate in Ottawa-Vanier Emilie Taman is declaring that the City of Ottawa must be officially designated as a bilingual city.

“We need to stop dragging our feet and make Ottawa officially bilingual,” said Taman. “Since we are celebrating the 105th anniversary of the Confederation, il would be appropriate to have Ottawa be officially designated as bilingual as our country has two official languages, English and French.”

Confirming the bilingual status of the city would protect the access to municipal services in both languages, ensuring that they will always be accessible in French to Ottawa's Francophone community. “Ottawa’s Francophone community is a vibrant one that has fought many battles to protect it's French institutions. After saving the Montfort hospital 20 years ago, it’s now time to make our municipal institution officially bilingual,” concluded Taman.
